Garlands and Stockings and Wreaths: Sharing My Holiday Home
Happy Holidays!
We’ve finished decorating our new home for Christmas. I’m excited to be hosting family and friends throughout the season and to start making memories here. The tree gets all the attention. I love ours—we like to keep it lit up when we are home because it feels so magical. I’ll be taking time off over the holidays and am looking forward to spending time basking in the beauty of this tree with my family.
“The stockings were hung by he chimney with care”… those of us who live in spaces that don’t have mantles have to get creative. Stair railings are a great place to hang the stockings. You can make the space extra festive by adding garland, or ribbon, or lights to the railing too. No stairs at your place? Try the edge of a console table or simply hang them on the wall using command hooks. Santa will find the stockings—and stuff them with goodies—no matter where you hang them.
Isn’t that garland dreamy? I love the pop it adds to the stairs and the way it accents our stockings. Garland is a great way to spruce up any room. You can use it on railings, over windows, or on large chests and cabinets. Although I am partial to the traditional pine boughs, garlands can be found in a variety of styles and colors, from shiny silver and gold tinsel to faux pine with natural elements—pine cones and holly berries—or lights. Taking a traditional pine garland and adorning it with festive ornaments can be a fun way to spend a few hours, if you are crafty and have the time. Your creation will look great hanging over a window or doorway.
I love the wreath on my front door. But why stop with the door.? A wreath adds a touch of the holiday spirit in any room. I love this whimsical red and white one in our kitchen. If you are anything like me, the kitchen—after the tree—is the center of holiday activity. This colorful addition puts a smile on my face and carries the holiday decor into this space.
Decorating isn’t the only thing we are doing to keep the spirit of the season going in our house. Our family favorite this year: “Alexa, play Christmas Music.” Lights, tree, stockings, and Christmas music, everything here is merry and bright.
